Lazy Bear Apiary is a small apiary nestled in the foothills of the great Smokey Mountains. I currently have around 20 hives and don’t have any plans on becoming a full time commercial apiary. The reason I got started is that I inherited a few hives from my dad who was an avid outdoorsman. He dearly loved the woods and everything in it. I believe keeping bees gives you a very unique and respectful aspect of nature. I wish I would have been more interested in beekeeping when my dad was alive, because as it turns out I seem to share the same passion he did with beekeeping. The name of my apiary actually comes from my favorite animal. The irony about the name is obvious, but goes even further because I actually have to run electrified fence around my hives along with flood lamps in the hopes of keeping the bears out. The Cherokee National Forest is a bear preserve and bears do walk by my apiary to head into the corn fields for late night snacking. So far my deterrence has worked and I hope it continues to.I want to thank you for purchasing my bee’s honey.Jarrod NewlonNote: Special thanks to Paul Souders for letting me use his photo of the below bear.
